This is due to the fact that the game is not played against a random opponent; it is played against a dealer who must follow a fixed set of rules, such as dealing a minimum of 10 cards, and must take his or her time with each deal. The house edge in blackjack is therefore higher than in other casino games, such as slot machines and video poker.
The house edge in blackjack can be reduced to a small percentage by using a combination of basic strategy and the right table conditions. Players who learn to correctly count cards can further lower this edge. However, counting cards can only be used in certain situations, and is not practical in all environments. For this reason, it is important to choose the right table and conditions before attempting to count cards in blackjack.
