The Domino Effect

Domino is the name of a series of events that build upon each other, similar to the way a domino effect works. In writing, it can be used to refer to any sequence of scenes that lead naturally to the next scene. For example, a character’s immoral action in one scene could have a domino effect in the legal or social arenas that could affect the rest of his life.

The term domino is also used for a number of related games played with the pieces, including some variants of Concentration or poker, and some that are simply blocking or scoring. Some of these games are adaptations of card games and were once popular in some areas to circumvent religious proscriptions against playing cards. In some cases, the use of dominoes may help to circumvent prohibitions on gambling.

In general, the pieces of a domino set are square with an arrangement of spots or “pips” on two adjacent sides, like a die, although some sides may be blank. The other side of each piece is patterned with either an identical pattern or the same color as the pips, but not both. The pips are usually of different colors, and the sets are often labeled with their colors in one or more languages. In addition to the standard sets made of ivory, bone or silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother of pearl), many other materials have been used to produce dominoes; for example, marble, granite and soapstone; woods such as acacia, spruce, hickory, oak and redwood; metals; and even ceramic clay and glass.

For a long time, the domino was a symbol of American entrepreneurship because it symbolized the successful growth of an idea that started small and ended up being hugely profitable. This is still true today, as countless companies have sprung up around the country and the world that have built their business based on an original idea that started out small.

Domino’s Pizza is a great example of this concept. They have been able to expand their business to other parts of the world because of the innovation they put into their product and their ability to adapt to changes in the marketplace.

Another example of the domino effect is the success that can be achieved with a well-organized team. This was demonstrated in the hit show Undercover Boss where the CEO of Domino’s, Don Meij, sent his top executives to work in various Domino’s restaurants and see how the employees handled their jobs. In a short period of time, Domino’s saw improvements in their customer service and employee morale. This was because the CEO was able to create an environment where his employees felt they were part of a family and not just a business unit. This type of culture is essential for any company that wants to be successful.
